Maui Bliss: A Photographic Field Guide to Paradise

May 1, 2014 | Wanderlust

Our trip to Maui was spontaneous, and it was the first time I was celebrating my birthday away from home. Armed with Maui Revealed by Andrew Doughty as our ultimate guide, we packed our bags and boarded the plane. While flying over the ocean, we saw the most beautiful sunset. I’ve never seen such intense pink sky before, so naturally I could not put down the camera. The colours kept changing in intensity and brightness, and we were glued to the window in awe. Upon landing we got a few chuckles from the friendly locals about our guidebook. Given that it’s the 5th edition, we were not the only ones in the know of the secret places. Nonetheless, it proved to be a fantastic book that enhanced our experience of Maui, and I would definitely recommend it. We rented a car and drove off into the darkness.  As a side note, remember to check whether your Canadian insurance covers the rental in the US beforehand. Don’t leave any valuables in the car and don’t lock it.

I love travel photography! It shows the diversity of our world and makes you appreciate its beauty. What follows, is a photographic field guide to paradise.

Our five day road trip around the island covers:
